Winter break and now a brand new semester at school has kept me busy these past few months. Even though I have been MIA around here for awhile...my thrift challenge from the last post still stands (I promise!), but it seems as though I have become distracted by other beautiful things screaming "buy me, buy me!"at my favorite thrift stores! I am so in love with the amazing man that I married 4 years ago on this day! M and I have shared so many joyful times together on this road called marriage, but I'm not gonna sugar coat anything because we have also had our share of challenges along the way ...some pretty crazy ones to say the least. But I wouldn't trade those challenges back for more happy times together, because they have made us who we are. They have only made us stronger and knit our hearts and souls closer together more than ever before! Today I'd like to take a moment to say... I love you to my wonderful husband who amazes me everyday!!

So, Here is my version of this inspirational pin

Mine is a little different, in that it is made of a martinelli's apple juice bottle, but I like it a smidge better because I made it..if ya know what I mean..*wink* *wink*! I will post the tutorial on how to make this version when I come back from my anniversary trip!!

Well not the good kind of staring. It's the kind where you work in an office with a lot of testosterone floating around (which can sometimes be a good thing, considering how much women will just refuse to get along when crammed in small spaces together) and you just get these blank stares...like are you seriously wearing that? That's what happened when I wore this get-up the other day.

Let's face it, most men over 40 just don't get fashion, and I seriously don't want to spend an hour explaining why pattern mixing is all the rage. So until I become a kindergarten teacher ;) my outfits will widely be misunderstood by a group of middle aged men who wear pen stained shirts and polyester trousers. Thank goodness for weekends! Have fun playing in the sun friends!

Absence makes the heart grow fonder

Well here I go again with a long absence from the blog world once again. Real life took a hold of my attention for sometime, and now I return. With my return I come back better and more informed about life and myself. Why am I better informed you say? Well turns out I have been suffering from a debilitating disease for most of my life without knowledge of what was causing me so much pain. They say knowledge is power and now having a diagnosis finally empowered me. I just had surgery and during that surgery my doctor found out that I have Endometriosis.

Because of this disease I am changing my lifestyle dramatically. I have been researching, sometimes almost all day, more natural approaches to healing (i don't want to put unwanted hormones in my body if I can help it). I will be changing my diet to help lessen the pain and growth of my Endometriosis. I will be trying to eat a soy-free, gluten-free, dairy-free diet! Wow that is a big change for me, but it turns out that soy, most of all, makes my disease worse. So, I will be incorporating some of my new lifestyle changes (mostly in the form of recipes) to the blog. In some small way maybe I can help someone else out there living with this disease and reach out to my Endo sisters! Oh...and it's good to be back..I've missed you!

I just love a good thrift find...or two...or three...keep em' comin'! I hit up some thrift shops while on vacay visiting my brother and SIL last weekend. I hit the jackpot with this grape jewel tone top and wool blazer....yummy! While I was there visiting I got to watch this live! So amazing to hear such inspirational messages. I started reflecting on what really matters in life.....I mean don't get me wrong...I love me some clothes...but I love serving others and not focusing on just me, me, me, all the time.....I know hard to believe, fashion blogger and not vain...oxymoron??

So I wanted to share with you my good deed for the day. I opened the door for a severely disabled man struggling to walk 1 foot at a time. He had a walker and was walking inch by inch with so much effort and persistence. It made me think of when M was in the hospital re-learning how to walk again, and I just had to reach out and lend a helping hand. He smiled at me and very warmly said, "thank you so much." It seems like such a small thing, but "great things are wrought through simple and small things." And afterwards, the high you get is kinda like after a good day of thrifting...but better;) What's your good deed for the day? I wanted to say thank you to all you lovely ladies for your kind words concerning the loss of my grandmother. I needed some time off from the blog for a short bit, a lot of crazy things started happening after my sweet grandmother passed in January. I started having some health problems and a dear friend of my lost her father in a tragic accident. In the whirlwind of all this I felt it was best to take some time for myself to regroup.

On a more positive note, I celebrated the dirty 30! Yes, I am officially an old geezer, and my back is killing me! All kidding aside, I had a wonderful surprise birthday party that my dear husband planned, behind my back, what a stinker ;) We even went roller skating which brought the kid out in me, now I am once again addicted, and wishing I would have hung on to my favorite pair of Riedells with the super fab pink wheels! More pics of the whole shin-dig to follow shortly......

My Grandmother was an extrordinary lady. She was so beautiful inside & out. Any creative energy I posess came from that beautiful woman. She taught me to sew, to make homemade apricot jam, and most importantly..to love God. She passed away on Saturday. You will be missed Olive..may you rest in peace.

By now I should be on day 27 of Kendi's 30 for 30 challenge, So Sue Me!
I've been having a rough semester at school. Things are crazy right now with next
week being the final week of school. I am cramming for finals and pulling my hair out!!
I'm not sure how long it will take me to finish the challenge but maybe I'll finish it by
next year (if i'm lucky:) I also just realized my pictures are not in numerical order...can
you tell how stressed I am..aghhh! Thank you for all of your wonderful comments along
the way....you help me see the light at the end of the tunnel in this challenge;) I'm off
to make a whole butt load of cookies atmy MIL's house. It's our annual christmas cookie
making party!

I'm lovin' my new red lipstick! Just got it today on sale at Walmart
for dirt cheap! It kinda makes me look pale and famished. I was
even offered a partial lunch from my cute third graders! I told them
my stomach was growling because their chicken sandwiches looked so
tasty (I skipped breakfast). A few of them immmediately told me they
would share their lunches with me....what sweethearts;) Of course I
politely declined the offer. Made my day! I can't wait to be a real teacher
when I grow up;) All this red is getting me excited for Christmas! 24 more
days and counting, literally, with our little Advent calendar;)

should be doing it instead of blogging **shh...dont' tell hubby** I have been
so behind on the 30 for 30 I sound like a broken record now a days. So

I'm a little behind on Kendi's 30 for 30 challenge, like 11 days behind *blush*,
and it's posing to be that much harder after eating a months caloric intake
in the space of 2 days! (yes we had a second thanksgiving feast yesterday for
a family members birthday celebration...can I get an AMEN!)

A few days of non-stop Jazzercise and maybe I can fit back into
my clothes, there's the real challenge, remixing is starting to look like pie...
well everything looks like pie today... maybe I'm hallucinating?
Better go take a nap and sleep this one off;)

New shoes

I finally got my new shoes in the mail today they are
sooooo comfortable, like walking on marshmellows!
New shoes make me smile:) Especailly when
they're free! Hubby said they would just end
up in my mound O' shoes pile. So what if they
do, I love my shoe pile!!

I feel so behind on my 30 for 30 outfits!! I'm only on #3 and

still 27 more to go! I haven't been taking pics because by the
time I get home from school and work the beautiful sunlight
has vanished:( My hubby suggested I set up a studio in the
spare room. For the time being this will have to do!

Ok... so I haven't been feelin so hot lately. I have like zero energy.

I literally had to pull myself out of bed and force myself to dress
up so my day would seem less depressing. I got some kind of bug
from the kiddos!

I love working with them...I just hate that I always
get their lovely germs;) Hubby wants to do something tonight but all
I feel like doing is curling up in a ball and watching chic flicks. I wish

I felt better so we could paint the town togetha! I'm dressed for a
fancy date but I just can't get myself past that gate!

Sometimes you gotta give em' the look

My early morning was spent in a third grade classroom (enter the smell of

stale breath and peanut butter). As part of my never ending pursuit for a college
degree I am entertained by 22 little munchkins who think they're 16.

To my surprise they had a substitute for the very first time,"Heaven help the
old lady!", I thought to myself as I stepped through the door. But boy was I in
for a sassy treat! This lady knew how to put the smack down on these kids. Left
and right she spit out orders like a general at boot camp. At first I was a bit
taken a back....I'm mostly a gentle hearted young woman and thought it to
be a bit harsh. Then a light went off, and I realized she might be on to something!!

So I decided to try out a wee experiment. The lovely rascal who ALWAYS gives me
a hard time in the class was my subject. The substitute barked at him..."sit down young
man!" To which he ignored. I walked up to him...cleared my throat and barked "sit down!"
To which he replied snottily (I think I just made up a new word) "WHY??" And then I
gave him the LOOK....you know the one that let's booger eaters know who's boss! He
sat down faster than green grass through a goose! Right then and there I
learned... sometimes you just gotta give em' the look ;) I think I might be gettin'
the hang of this teacher thing?

The weather was beautiful today...I spent this lovely sunday relaxing with my cute hubby! There was no regular church meeting today due to General Conference... so I watched it online;) I have been lucky enough to attend it live in Salt lake city for the past 3 years, but my bro & his wife are here in Cali visiting from Utah. I love the wonderful inspiring talks and of course looking at all the lovely modest fashionable outfits. Here are some super cute outfits spotted last conference by Shape Candy. 3 years deserves a trip to the Bay!

Last year we spent our 2 year wedding anniversary in the hospital:( Not my idea of a celebration! So Me and the Hubs decided this year we would make up for that by celebrating our 3 year anniversary somewhere cool! We decided to take a quick trip to San Fransisco city and Stinson Beach. If you have never been to Stinson beach, I highly recommend it!!! A beautiful beach town just over the Golden gate bridge. It is such a peaceful place to unwind and relax! I was also introduced to the delicious Mr. Oyster...how could I have been missing out on this yummy treat for all these years? Oh dear, I'm addicted!

Where has the time gone?? It is already the 5th of September and my last post was in August! Oh that's right school has gone and done it again! School, school, school you take up too much of my precious time! I have more important things to be spending my time on (he he he)! Messy buns and belts

I know what your thinking...get your mind out of the gutter young ladies;) I never thought I would use messy buns in a title post...well...never say never! Messy bun updos and belts have been my go to look for a couple weeks now. I love how a belt can change up a lackluster outfit and define your waistline in mere seconds...love love it! So today I was bolder than usual;) I wore polka dots with stripes...not my usual but it worked out and I got some compliments at work! And I only spent $12.00 on my whole outfit! I love my new budget wedges:) They are so comfortable and in such great 2nd hand condition! Everything you see here is thrifted except the locket! If you look really close on the left side of this photo you can see my nosey cat Saydee!! She is a crack up she always has to watch me out the window whenever I go outside...I didn't realize she was in the picture til later! Crazy kitty!!

A recent gift from my mother...I guess i'm on a locket kick right now;) I love it so much!! I wore it today to keep her in my thoughts and prayers. My mom was recently diagnosed with cancer and will be going through Chemo and radiation treatments soon. I don't mean to get ya down so on the positive side of things she caught it the early stages and has a really good chance of beating it. So a little reminder to call your mom and tell her you love her today if you haven't already, and tell her how much you love and apprecitate her!

So in order to help cheer you up after that... I decided to share with you my new recipe for Sugar Cookies spelled with a capital S and C because they are very important! You can find the yummy recipe on one of my favorite food blogs Our best bites. It is the first recipe I have used that doesn't call for cream of tartar and that makes me smile:) This is a picture of the Sugar cookies I made yesterday. I ran out of butter, and I am poor, so I had to decorate them with sanding sugar. But they are oh so much yummier with frosting and look ten times better so check them out here!
And last but not least..cute shoes!! I love these pair of mint green seychelles. Aren't they adoreable. I wish I could afford them ($92.99) but just staring at them makes me feel like I am indulging in a large helping of Chocolate lava cake;) They are in my size over at Modcloth, maybe I could sell one of my kidneys? Be sure to leave me a comment if you know where a great pair of knock offs can be found ...I am dying to know!

This is my day #1 outfit...let the fun times begin for the week long adventure;)

In style right now are military pieces mixed with a bit of feminine flare! The key to this stlye is to sweeten it up a bit so the look isn't too harsh. I added pieces like: a pink tank and flower, a cute belt, sandals, and beads!

Oh and I curled my hair, which I rarely do, it added a bit more softness!

I did a big thrift store purchase the other day and aquired this great belt ($1.80) and green jacket ($3.00). The necklace was borrowed from mom and the jeans were a gift from my mother-in-law!

Today was a breezy day, not sure why I decided to wear shorts cuz I froze a bit..and I gotta get rid of these shoes! I Got them from kmart and they are super cute but not too easy on the feet:( but anywho I loved the look! White is always great to wear in the summer;)Plus it makes me look tanner ha ha:) Which reminds me, I need to go buy some tanning lotion so I don't look so pastey white all the time!

I'm a bit bummed I didn't get this post up sooner since It's what I wore yesterday...but I've had a lot on my mind yesterday & today. My mom goes in for surgery this afternoon. She just found out a couple weeks ago that she has cancer. If you could keep her in your thoughts and prayers it would be much appreciated! I Love you Mom...you are the strongest woman I know!!

We went to the park today for Matt's Aunt's retirement BBQ party! We had a great time! Lots of food, family, and fun! We played a game called horseballs (like horseshoes but funner) have you heard of it? So I tried out a new thingy thanks to Elaine over at Clothed Much called the belted scarf...great to dress up a plain looking outfit anytime! Sorry the lighting is so horrible in these shots too much sunshine in da eyes!! I gotta get some better pictures..these are kinda sad:( I'm workin' on it!

I have been reading so many fashion blogs lately...let's just say i'm a little addicted....well ok maybe more like a lot addictied (been going to bed around 2-3am!) So I've decided to jump on board and post some of my own daily outfits. I think it will help me to be more creative with what I have in my closet since I can't afford much of anything right now! Me and the hubby are dirt poor, I'm in college, and with Matt's recent health problems the past few years it has been a bit of a rough journey for us. Who says you can't be poor, joyful, and stylish??

This daily outfit post will help me to have a bit more sunshine in my life...help to make me smile and be more creative which always distracts me from having a frown on my face;) I will try to incorporate some of my handmade jewelry into the mix as well...it has always lifted my spirits! So here we go!!!

What's great is that you can use a photo on one side and put your digits/contact info. on the other.

Some other great ideas people used were putting a fortune on one side of the card. This is such a great conversation starter & so original! Thank you Jeannie, at Equinox Photography, what an awesome idea!

A funny easter!

Yesterday me and my sweet hubby celebrated Easter with both sides of our family, stuffing ourselves silly of Easter delicacies and sweet treats ;) We really had a wonderful day filled with family, spiritual renewal, and just the happiness that Easter brings! I hope you had a wonderful Easter as well!!

But.... I just thought I would share with you our funny Easter experience. We had spent the entire day with family and we were just plain pooped. When we got to our back door to open it....ready to just fall on the bed and peace out....I realized I had left my house key in my pants...which I never do... located in the house...behind a locked door...OHHH CRAPOLA !! Mind you, it was raining cats and dogs and colder than a ...well you get the picture:) We did have the shelter of the garage, but come on, it's Easter for crying out loud!!

So we called my dear ol' Mom and Pop who have extra keys. They live like 30 mins. away and jumped in their car to come and rescue us!! Yay! But the story gets better. When they arrive my Pops tries every key on his key ring twice! No match, So my mom checks her purse for her key....nope not there!! Both of them had assumed that the other had the key, LOL! So they headed back up to their house to find it while me and my hubby slow danced in the garage, went through old boxes with some high school art work contained inside, a quick run to KFC for some popcorn chicken, and Starbucks for some Hot cocoa;) When we got back My Pops had found the key and we were rescued! It was a funny Easter for us...but we had fun none the less. How was your Easter??

How to dress up a necklace for spring

First, start with something such as a pearl necklace or any necklace you would like to dress up a bit. This white necklace is a vintage necklace my grandmother gave me.

Next find some ribbon or fabric that you love with spring colors in it.

Tie the ribbon/fabric to the top of the necklace.

Wrap the ribbon/fabric between every other bead tightly.

Continue this all the way to the end of the necklace, making sure to hold the ribbon/fabric pretty tightly.

Tie the ribbon off at the end.

Finish by making a bow!

And wahla! A beautiful spring necklace!

Here's a cool tip I found for keeping your jewelry looking fresh & great!

Don't toss those little silica gel packs that come with your shoes or electronics, in the trash! Instead, toss them in your jewelry box! They absorb moisture in the air which is a common culprit of jewelry tarnishing. Just keep them away from little hands!

Happy belated valentine's day everyone! This year for valentine's me and my hubby celebrated by eating out and watching a movie at home, it was so relaxing! We also spent a few days with my mom who just had some heart issues this past week, and was in the hospital for a stint. We are so glad and relieved she is feeling better and more like herself everyday. I am extremely proud of her for her courage to take on a whole lifestyle change to keep her heart healthy and tickin' well. And I vow to take on the challenge as well. Asparagus and Cashews

Fresh steamed asparagus tossed with sesame oil, toasted cashews and marjoram.

Ingredients

1 1/2 lb fresh asparagus , trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
1 tbsp sesame oil
3 tbsp fresh lemon juice

1 oz Nuts, cashews, raw , toasted and chopped

Directions
1 Steam the asparagus in a metal steamer over boiling water for about 6 to 7 minutes. Drain. Combine asparagus with remaining ingredients and serve.

Toasted cashews give crunch and flavor to fresh asparagus.

YAY!!!!! I just sold another item in my Etsy shop! This is my first necklace sale on Etsy! Thank you Megan, I know you will absoltely love it! For some reason it is hard to part with my jewelry after I sell it. I love that it sold... and someone else loves it too, it just feels like a piece of me is going with that item! Can anyone else relate? It is a wonderful piece with a vintage chandelier passed down to me by my late grandmother Ramona. And it sold almost to the day of her passing 12 years ago.

Sometimes I wish I could have lived in the good ol' days. Things were just a bit simpler back then. Here are a few of the wonderful things I love from the Era my grandmother grew up in:

School has been taking up so much of my time lately...ahhhh! But I am really excited to learn more about rocks and minerals in my Geology class (I know I'm a nerd) I want to incorporate more of them into my jewelry!
I was happy to finally get some jewelry done this weekend:) I only posted one new necklace in my shop today, but I plan to try and get some more posted tomorrow!

This necklace is so great, because you can put a picture of a loved one inside the locket and bring them with you wherever you go! It's truly a romantic piece of jewelry that has stolen my heart!

After looking at all the dresses, and gorgeous Jewelry worn by the glamorous elite in Tinsletown, I am in love! I am inspired to make some stunning pieces like the ones worn by those on the red carpet at the Golden Globe awards! Here are a few of my faves, let me know what you think?

Rain Rain go away!

So it's raining here in sunny California....all day! I am trying to take pictures using a light box I made, but the pics just aren't turning out the way I would like them to! I made some gorgeous Garnet dangle earrings last night and the pictures are just not doing them the justice they deserve :( Hopefully we'll get more sunshine soon, but I'm betting on no based on the weather report! These earring are dedicated to January Birthdays and Valentine's day...which is just around the corner!

So....I sold 2 of my 3 pair of earrings I had posted in my Etsy shop! Now my store looks pretty empty=( But I am not sad that I sold, not 1 item but, 2 items on my first day!! Thanks to Cathy, my first ever Etsy customer! I hope you enjoy your earrings!
I will be posting more items in my shop tomorrow. Things have just been so hectic lately and the lighting has been bad for pictures (go away overcast weather!!).

I just finished my first big order for a wonderful lady I met in Sierra City back at the Octoberfest, where I did my first jewelry display! She liked my jewelry and ordered a variation on one of my lariat necklaces. She wanted something special for her daughters's 21st birthday which is in January. She wanted the January birthstone (Garnet) on a white gold chain. The lariat necklace was an adjustable one so it could be changed to fit varied necklines. I presented it to her yesterday and she loved it...it was hard to part with because I loved it so much I wanted to keep it! A happy moment

I had a good happy cry for a moment.....then did what any girl would do...I called my mom=) I had no idea i would get such a lovely response from such a wonderful stranger. Etsy Shop Grand Opening

So I did it!!!!! I finally jumped in and took the plunge to start my own business on Etsy.com=) I've been going back and forth about it for 3 months now and finally found the courage to just DO IT! I lost my job back in February 2009 when my dad's company went under due to the crappy economy! It has almost been a year of being on unemployment, which was good due to the fact that Matt has been on disability for over a year now and I have been able to help him out this whole time which is a blessing, but we are so poor it's not funny! So hopefully this turns out good and we can make some income, because my unemployment ran out and we are scraping by!

I opened my Jewelry shop to the public at around 5am and my heart is still pounding out of my chest! It feels strange to put yourself out there for everyone to see, especially when your art work is pretty much just an extension of yourself. It's hard to think...what if people don't like it, or worse....what if no one buys anything!!! But I have been doing a lot of reading and research on Etsy for the past 8 months and lots of people say to hang in there because it takes time for people to find you and then to buy something from you when you just start out=( So I guess I will just play the waiting game...I know i'm gonna drive myself insane...i'm already an Etsy junky and this is not going to help at all! So here's to a new adventure for 2010, this was my top new years resolution and I think i'm doing pretty good so far;) Here's to a Happy & healthy New year!!
